Amazing!!! Just flew in from Boston and this was my first stop. The woman is the kindest, most sweetest there is, the food is full of flavor and delicious. Definitely a must visit, if you haven’t been.
I've loved going to Miss Betty's since I was in highschool, and I graduated in 2007. I moved away in my mid 20s and didn't go for over 10 years, but I was in the area and met my mom for lunch there. I was so surprised when she recognized me!The food is exactly as I remember it. My mom got the regular cashew chicken and I got the spicy version, and we split some wontons. She still has the best chili crisp I've ever had.A little has changed since I was there last. There used to be 3 inside tables to sit at, along with the bar. Now that space is taken up with fridges, I'm guessing that changed around COVID. Now there are a couple of tables outside next to the building.I love Magic Wok!!
Finally got out to Magic Wok. Amazing local icon. Get here soon. As soon as I walked in she took one look at me and said, "spicy". I said yes. Great cashew chicken. Lots of cashews. Delicious.
The best cashew chicken spicy and regular. Must try the wontons!! The best and nicest owners. Fast and friendly. They have many many regulars and they are all so nice. 5/5 stars.
Amazing owners and fantastic food. Be aware that what they decide to make for the day is what you are getting. From what I can tell that is usually Cashew Chicken Spicy, Cashew Chicken Regular, and Beef-filled wontons. This is not a Panda Express-style establishment. If you are on the fence about spicy, I would go for it. It did not burn my taste buds off. *Cash Only*, which is fine with me, but make sure you have enough cash on hand for the food tax. There are plenty of ATMs close by. They are only open M-F 10AM to 2PM. I work outside of Oak Ridge, so it took about two-months before I had a day off that allowed me to make it by closing time. But it was so worth it. The inside is small, so you will most likely want to take it to go or eat outside. My dad was in the Air Force so I was blessed to see much of the world at a young age. I say this because in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, etc..... this type of small setup is extremely common. In the United States it is more of a rarity unless in a major city like New York, Chicago, etc. I personally love it, as it is unique and not the standard cookie-cutter restaurant setup. However, if you are looking for a familiar sit-down table-service experience, you would want to give it a shot another time. My favorite part of the experience was talking with the owners, very genuine and kind-hearted.
Amazing! You have a choice of regular or spicy cashew chicken. 7 a tray. Wontons are 2/1. It was excellent. Cash only. Really sweet couple with smiles on their face as they serve you awesome food. Definitely stop by.
I have been eating here since I attended Tennessee School of Beauty in the 80s. The school is no longer there, but the Magic Wok is still going strong and great as ever.
This legendary place has been open for more than 40 years and is literally a mom-and-pop establishment. Yes, they are cash-only and the menu consists of two items: beef wontons and cashew chicken with rice. But again, a grandmother and her husband are the only employees and everything is freshly cooked up to order. The food is delicious and there are many variations available for the chicken: want more flavor? Fresh ginger and garlic are available. Want more heat? Homemade chili crisp and even hotter peppers are available. Picky eater? Ms Betty will make a pain version. To the haters out there- nothing is "left in a fryer."
